An offline UPS, also called a standby UPS, normally passes utility power to connected equipment and switches to battery power when the supply fails. The changeover creates a short transfer interval.

What an offline UPS means

An offline UPS—also called a standby UPS—normally supplies connected equipment with incoming utility power. When the utility supply fails or falls outside the unit’s detection limits, the UPS switches to its battery-powered inverter.

That switch creates a transfer interval. The exact interval, output waveform, battery capacity, and operating behavior depend on the product and should not be assumed from the “offline” label alone.

Why the term matters on UPSFit

Also check whether the product page gives complete specifications rather than relying on a shortened catalog label. These details help define what the offline UPS can do; they do not turn the topology name into a quality rating.
