C13

C13 is an IEC 60320 appliance connector commonly used as an AC outlet on UPS units and power distribution equipment. It typically mates with a C14 plug or inlet.

What C13 means

C13 is an IEC 60320 appliance connector used for AC power connections. On a UPS, PDU, or similar power product, a C13 outlet is typically the socket that accepts a C14-ended power cord or jumper.

Catalogs may describe this connection as a “C13 coupler,” “C13 outlet,” or an output such as “6x IEC 320 C13.” These labels generally identify the connector type and, when a quantity is shown, the number of C13 connections.

Why it matters on UPSFit

The connector determines whether a device’s power cord can physically connect to the product. A UPS with C13 outputs is commonly intended for equipment or cables using the corresponding C14 connection. Checking this before purchase can prevent a mismatch even when the product’s electrical capacity appears suitable.

C13 is a connector format, not a measurement of how much power the UPS can provide. The connector label alone does not establish the product’s total output capacity, per-outlet limit, protection features, or runtime.

What the label does not tell you

A C13 listing does not, by itself, confirm:

  • The number of C13 outlets unless a quantity is stated
  • The product’s voltage, current, or total power limits
  • Whether a power cord, IEC jumper, or adapter is included
  • Whether every outlet is always powered or controlled separately
  • The suitability of the connected equipment
  • The build quality or performance of the UPS

A capability flag such as “C13 coupler” identifies a connection type; it is not a quality rating. If a catalog entry combines C13 with C19, Terminal, Type F, or IEC Jumpers, each connection type should be treated as a separate part of the product description.

What to check on a product page

Look for the exact wording under outlet, output, or electrical connection specifications. Confirm:

  • Whether C13 is listed as an outlet, coupler, cable end, or output connection
  • How many C13 connections are provided
  • Which input connection the product uses
  • The stated electrical ratings and total output limits
  • Whether cords or jumpers are supplied
  • Any outlet grouping, switching, or control details that are explicitly stated

If the page only identifies a C13 connection, those additional details remain unknown and should not be inferred from the connector type.

Nearby connector terms

C14 is the common mating connection for a C13 outlet. C19 is a larger IEC connector used on some higher-current equipment, while C20 is its usual mating inlet. IEC Jumpers are short power cables that may use IEC connectors at one or both ends.
